Games Played in 2009

December 31, 2009

I tend to buy more games than I play, and play more games than I finish, so I though this year I’d make a list of games played, with an * next to ones I’ve finished.  I’m sure this list will miss a lot, but here’s a go at it.

  • Age of Booty (XBLA) *
  • Animal Crossing: City Fold (Wii)
  • Batman: Arkham Asylum (PS3)
  • The Beatles: Rock Band (Xbox 360) *

  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time Reshelled (XBLA)
  • Toki Tori (Wiiware)
  • Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune (PS3) *
  • Uncharted 2: Among Thieves (PS3) *
  • Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos (Mac) *
  • Wii Sports Resort (Wii)
  • World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King (Mac)

Not a bad list.  I actually finished more than I expected. Sadly, there are no PSP games on that list.  Not a good year for the PSP, even outside the PSP Go fiasco.  The Playstation 3, the console I have the least amount of games for, actually had a very good showing this year.

For those that just have to know, my Game of the Year, without a shred of doubt, is Uncharted 2: Among Thieves.

Books Completed in 2009

December 31, 2009

Year-end has been crazy for me, with my primary posting computer on the fritz.  No top 10 lists this year, but a few posts on what I accomplished throughout the year, starting with books I read.  Between audiobooks and Kindle books, it was a pretty productive year, with about a book a month.  And some of those were pretty big books (two were 1000+ pages!).  Here’s the list

  • Ur by Stephen King (Kindle)
  • The Stand Complete and Uncut Edition by Stephen King (Kindle)
  • Gears of War: Aspho Fields by Karen Traviss (Kindle)
  • The Wheel of Time 1: The Eye of the World by Robert Jordan (unabridged audiobook)
  • The Wheel of Time 2: The Great Hunt by Robert Jordan (unabridged audiobook)
  • The Talisman by Stephen King and Peter Straub (unabridged audiobook)
  • World of Warcraft: Arthas by Christie Golden (Kindle)
  • Daemon by Daniel Suarez (Kindle)
  • Black House by Stephen King and Peter Straub (unabridged audiobook)
  • Song of Ice and Fire 1: A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin (unabridged audiobook)
  • Song of Ice and Fire 2: A Clash of Kings by George R.R. Martin (unabridged audiobook)
  • Hitchhikers Guide To the Galaxy Book 6 of 3: And Another Thing by Eoin Colfer (unabridged audiobook)
  • Under The Dome by Stephen King (unabridged audiobook)

Thanks Justin for pointing me to the trailer!

Papercraft Friday #71: Foosball

December 11, 2009

A few weeks ago, featured a fun model from Kirin Beverage Company in Tokyo, Japan.  It’s a tiny foosball table, also known as table football or table soccer depending on where you live.    I like little models that have working parts.  The base of this model is no larger than a sheet of paper, but it has a lot of detail.  Get it know via

Game Impressions: Uncharted 2: Among Thieves

December 10, 2009

A couple of months ago, I played Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune for the first time, in anticipation of the then upcoming release of Uncharted 2: Among Thieves.  I liked it, but found that my anticipation of it was better than the reality of it.  (See my Game Impressions.)  Perhaps because it was hyped so well when it was initially released, being an decent exclusive on the underperforming PS3.  So when Uncharted 2: Among Thieves came out to heaps of praise, my BS radar immediately went off.  Could it possibly be as good as described, or was it just another above-average exclusive for the PS3?

CAG Fund for Child’s Play 2009 Charity Raffle Extravaganza!

December 9, 2009

The last few years, the Cheap Ass Gamer website has run a charity raffle for the Child’s Play charity, which donates games, books, toys and cash to sick kids in children’s hospitals around the world.  My family has personally seen the benefits from organizations like this and I highly encourage everyone to donate to this worthy cause.  Last year I promoted the CAG raffle as a way to donate to Child’s Play, and donated myself, and I won an Xbox 360 Elite from the raffle!  From the raffle this year:

Last year, CAGs raised over $32,000 (up from $27K in 2007) for Penny Arcade’s Child’s Play charity. This year, let’s see if we can hit $40,000 before the year is through.

For every $5 donated via PayPal through the CAG ChipIn system, you will receive one entry into a raffle with great prizes, including $500 Amazon and $300 Play-Asia gift certificates. We’ve also got a ton of great prizes from the generous CAG community. I expect the prize list to grow and grow until the very end of the fundraiser.

Please consider donating to the cause this year.  They are around the $10,000 mark but have a long way to go to reach their goal.
