Game Impressions: Heavy Rain

February 28, 2010

Introduction

By description, Heavy Rain is the type of game to which I would naturally gravitate.  Developer Quantic Dream describes it as interactive drama, which smacks of my love of interactive fiction, choose your own adventures, and point-and-click games.  The game uses a unique control scheme that uses context sensitive actions and quick time events to tell the story of four characters and the mystery of the Origami Killer.  So what’s my take on this new interactive drama?

LEGO Night: 8183 Racers Track Turbo RC

February 28, 2010

This week’s LEGO Night was a radio-controlled build.  The 92 piece 8183 Racers Track Turbo RC is not a difficult build, and it’s one of those that has a lot of custom pieces.  It takes 3 AAA batteries (for the remote) and 3 AA batteries (for the car).  You can build three different cars with the set, though we just built the first one.  I was surprised at how powerful the RC engine is.  Pics of the build and a video of the car in action after the jump.

Bioshock 2 Blacklight Posters

February 25, 2010

I just love this kind of stuff.  I posted unboxing photos of the Bioshock 2 Special Edition, including the three posters in the set.  What JRock on the 2K message boards discovered, two weeks after the game was released, was that if you shine a UV blacklight on the posters, there are hidden messages!  What’s written on them is what is scrawled on the posters in the actual game.

2K’s Community Manager, 2K Elizabeth, responded to the forum thread with “Well, would you look at that.  ”  That’s awesome.

Forum member Lotus52 posted pics and vids to photobucket.  See the pics after the jump.

Papercraft Friday #76: Battlestar Galactica Viper Mk. II

February 19, 2010

The reimagined Battlestar Galactica series that aired from 2004-2009 far exceeded my expectations, to the extent that I’m far more willing to give something a shot and not rely on the interwebs to tell me whether something will be good or not.  I’m surprised that it took me 76 Papercraft Friday posts to finally feature something from Battlestar Galactica, but here it is: the Viper Mk. II.  It’s marked as the ship of Kara Thrace (a.k.a. Starbuck).  Get it from Ninjatoes’ Papercraft webpage.

Not keen on this one?  Want more?  Check out other Papercraft Friday posts.

The $1.1 Million World of Warcraft Pandaren Make-A-Wish Monk

February 17, 2010

A couple of months ago, Blizzard Entertainment announced new in-game pets for sale online for $10 each.  One of them was the Pandaren Monk, and the proceeds of sales of it through December 31st were to be split 50/50 with the Make-A-Wish Foundation.  The grand total was announced today, with Blizzard presenting Make-A-Wish a check for $1.1 million dollars.

Way to go, Blizzard and World of Warcraft players!  You’ve made a lot of sick kids wishes come true.
