Machinarium Pirate Amnesty $5 Game Sale

August 9, 2010

Shipwreck over at CheapAssGamer pointed out today that, for those that missed it, the point-and-click adventure Machinarium has been on sale for $5 since August 5th, and the sale last through Thursday August 12th.  The sale is dubbed a Pirate Amnesty sale, as Amanita Design estimates only 5-15% of the people who have ever played the DRM-free game have actually paid for it.  Now’s your chance to (five) buck up, pirates!  Offer available to non-pirates as well.  They even have a little diddy for the occasion.

For $5 you get the Windows, Linux and Mac versions of the game (all three!) plus the soundtrack.  Nice deal!

Retro Gamer Magazine Deal

September 3, 2009

I love Retro Gamer Magazine.  If I could have only one game-related magazine it would be Retro Gamer.  It’s published in the UK and hasn’t been easy to come by in the United States.  And when you have found it, the price has traditionally been around $13-$15 each.  I know of only one Barnes & Noble in my area that carries it (and no Borders that carry it), and even though it’s nowhere close to me, I make a special trip there once every 3-4 weeks just to pick up the new Retro Gamer.

They just announced some good news for U.S. readers.  The store-bought version should now be priced at $10 each.  That may still seem high for a magazine, but it’s reasonable considering it’s an import, and it’s a very high-quality magazine.  And you can now subscribe to it for a bargain £50 ($80) for 13 issues.  Just head to and type in YOUTUBE in capitals.  I highly recommend it.

Odd Sale at

February 20, 2009

oddI love  I know, I’ve mentioned it before.  They should PAY ME for the publicity!  But I love old skool gaming, and I like the concept of developers being able to offer their classic games to gamers for a reasonable price.  You know the game will work on your current system, and you get all kinds of extras like soundtracks and wallpaper.  It’s a win-win situation.

I was browsing feeds in my Google Reader and saw one of the things I’ve been waiting for: an Oddworld weekend sale!  For the next 4 days, you can get Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee and Oddworld: Abe’s Exoddus in a bundle for only $16.98.  Or, if you already bought one of them from, you can get the other for $1.50 off.

Since I have several titles in the hopper waiting to be played, I figured I didn’t need to immediately spring for the Oddworld games, and could wait until I either catch up or there was a sale.  Guess what’s downloading right now!
