Papercraft Friday #95: Despicable Me Minions

July 16, 2010

From all reports, one of the better aspects of the new movie Despicable Me is the villain Gru’s adorable minions.  Look for them in their own show!  Paper Replika put out some paper models of the minions earlier this week, and they look just as cute as their animated counterparts.  They’re good beginner models in that there are not a tremendous amount of pieces, but there are a variety of shapes and curves.

Papercraft Friday #92: 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea: The Nautilus

June 25, 2010

I recently listened to Doctor Who: Wreck of the Titan, which put me in the mood for some Jules Verne action.  The Disney Experience has a very nice model of the Nautilus from 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, which comes with an optional stand if you’d prefer not to hang it.  People who think Nemo is a fish need not apply.

Papercraft Friday #87: Yoda

May 21, 2010

Small, today’s papercraft is.  Like building Yoda, I think you will. Perhaps fitting, it is, since Talk Like Yoda Day today is.  Herh herh herh.

This one not keen on, hmm?  Want more, hmm?  Check out other Papercraft Friday posts.

Papercraft Friday #85: Ironman 2

May 7, 2010

It’s Ironman 2 weekend, so what better way to start it off than with some Ironman 2 papercraft.  Raphael Gatt has made several different paper models of Ironman and War Machine and Iron Monger on his website, including the Ironman 2 Mark VI shown here.  Not only fun to make, but cheaper than a movie and popcorn!

Exaspirations: Avatar’s Duplicitous Earth Day Release

April 21, 2010

As a way to supposedly celebrate Earth Day, 20th Century Fox is releasing Avatar on Blu-ray and DVD.  The film’s environmentally friendly message is deemed a perfect fit with the annual environmentally friendly day.  So what’s the issue?

The DVD and the Blu-ray/DVD combo discs being released are as bare bones as you can get.  Just the movie.  No extras, no specials, no trailers.  No extended scenes, no commentaries, no making-of, nothing but the movie.  Why?  So in November they can release it again as a Special Edition, and next year they can release it again with 3D!  To placate buyers, the 1st release will contain a code for viewing some bonus content online, and reportedly a coupon for the November release.

Are you kidding me?!!?  To honor the Earth, 20th Century Fox is releasing 3 versions of the same film, which with Blu-ray and DVD will amount to at least 6 different cardboard and plastic packages!  Because I’m sure people won’t buy a better version down the road (with the provided coupon no less) and dump this neutered release in the nearest landfill.  Way to take care of your pocketbook the planet, James Cameron… you are a shyster an inspiration to us all!

Netflix for Wii Case Cover Art

April 13, 2010

Getting that shiny new disc in the mail this week for instant streaming Netflix on your Wii? I got it today and gave it a try.  Works pretty well on the little console that could.  Better than on the PS3 for standard def streaming and load times!

You don’t need to return the disc, so print yourself a nice Netflix Wii-style case cover from The Cover Project, grab a white DVD case (or buy empty cases from Nintendo if you are a perfectionist), and put that disc in your game library in style.  If you have a PS3 disc, you can do the same for it with a Netflix PS3 case cover.

Papercraft Friday #73: Avatar AT-99 Scorpion Gunship

January 29, 2010

I finally saw Avatar last weekend with my brother, and one of the things I kept thinking during the movie was how cool the “helicopters” were.  I loved watching the rotors move and rotate.  Blogger tekzo at paperhobby created a nice reproduction of the VTOL craft, and made it available for download on his site.  Now he just needs to make a Navi warpaint version!
