It’s a shame that networks haven’t learned to adapt to new media, and realize that there are audiences out there that are not “Nielson families.” While I mostly consider shows that the “big networks” like CBS, ABC, NBC and FOX to be garbage, every once in awhile a gem comes along. And the networks axe it because it gets “poor ratings.” Despite evidence that the arcane rating system is flawed. The latest victim… Jericho. Again.

Videogames based on movie licenses invariably suck. Videogames based on TV show licenses are typically even worse. So I’m filled with dread at the announcement of the forthcoming Doctor Who videogame, coming soon to the PS2, PC and DS. And it’s coming from Eidos, who’s parent company SCi Entertainment has been the subject of takeover bids and top level resignations. Edios has brought the excellent Tomb Raider: Legend (developed by their American studio Crystal Dynamics) and the mediocre Kane And Lynch: Dead Men (done by their Denmark studio IO Interactive). No word on who is working on the Doctor Who game.
The fact that it’s not coming on a “next-gen” platform (ala Wii, 360 and PS3) set off alarms in my head. That’s not necessarily bad … but it doesn’t give me warm and fuzzies. About all I can say is…. please don’t suck.
