Appy Shreddin’ Monday! I’m not sure what it is that draws me to music genre games. I can’t tell you much about songs or artists for the last decade or two, and I have the manual dexterity of a rhino (animal and/or record exec). But I keep playing them anyway. Since APPraisal has already tackled Rock Band, it’s only fitting to give Guitar Hero a spin.

July 26, 2010Doctor Who Theme on Guitar
May 26, 2010The original 1963 Doctor Who theme by Delia Derbyshire, recreated by Bill Ruppert using just a guitar and some Electro-Harmonix pedals. Pretty cool.
Need a little reference? Here’s a video of the opening sequence:
and the full classic theme (audio only):
Wii Game Soundtrack Sadness
May 25, 2010Long time readers will no doubt be familiar with my love of video game music soundtracks, especially of the free variety. Joystiq posted a story today about the cancellation of Wii horror game Sadness. It was in development hell for years, rumored even to be vaporware, and finally canceled. This was confirmed last month by the game’s musical composer, Arkadiusz Reikowskiego, who released the music tracks on his blog for download. So to alleviate your sadness at the cancellation of the game, enjoy the work-in-progress Sadness soundtrack for free!

APPraisal: SIRIUS XM Premium Online
April 5, 2010I only do APPraisals on apps I personally found interesting or useful enough to try. I don’t always end up liking every app, but I don’t buy or download something just to review it. I was hesitant to discuss the SIRIUS XM Premium Online app, though, because it requires a subscription on top of the app which can be a bit pricey. But given how much I use the app (a spoiler to what I think of it below), I figured a discussion of it and the ways I use it might be appropriate. Someone else out there might get some tips or have some for me as well.
The Arcade Ambiance Project
March 27, 2010I saw an article the other day on Kotaku about the Arcade Ambiance Project. I finally got a chance to check it out, and wow, what a fun idea. Andy Hofle decided that the room containing his MAME cabinet lacked a little of that crowded arcade sound you may recall (if you’re old enough!) from days gone by, and set about to recreate it. The result are 4 long .mp3 files, with sounds you might have heard in an arcade in 1981, 1983, 1986 and 1992.
It’s been around for 5-6 years now, but somehow escaped my attention. If it’s escaped yours as well, go check it out and download the free tracks for yourself.
Now, if I only had a MAME cabinet.
Bookmarked: RainyMood.com
January 28, 2010I frequently run across websites that I’d like to share. Some of them I’ve already got in my Blogrolls to the right, and others I just bookmark and revisit. I thought I’d add an infrequent addition to my regular posts called Bookmarked where I’d share a site I recently bookmarked that was interesting, entertaining or useful.
My first entry would be RainyMood.com, a website who’s sole purpose is to play 15 minutes of gentle rain sounds, looped. Great for relaxation or background white noise. This totally falls into the “why didn’t I think of that” category for me.
Thanks to Download Squad for the heads-up on this one.

APPraisal: Rock Band
October 26, 2009Appy Rockin’ Monday! I’m a fan of Rock Band on the Xbox 360. I own Rock Band, Rock Band 2 and The Beatles: Rock Band on that platform. So an official Rock Band app for the iPhone / iPod Touch immediately peaked my curiosity.
Zork: The Musical
September 30, 2009Posted by Corey Doctorow at BoingBoing:
Phil sez, “Errol and Pifie, two members of the 50 Songs in 90 Days songwriting challenge (known as 50/90) have created a nerd-core masterpiece. A rockin’ walkthrough to the original ZORK text adventure game.”
Walkthrough, MP3 download (Thanks, Phil!)

Code Monkey Got Zombie
September 28, 2009I missed this post on Scott Johnson’s Extra Life website late last Friday. Very cool. Jonathan Coulton should license it for a t-shirt or something. Click the pic above or the website link to see the full picture.
My bro and I went to see Coulton live a couple of weeks ago. Very good show, I’d recommend you go if you have a chance.
