Wii Skin

October 30, 2008

Well, here’s the third and final skin I ordered from DecalGirl.com.  Justin tricked out the insides of my Wii, so I just had to trick out the outside too, with a little old skool love the the latest Nintendo console.

Papercraft Friday #13: Escape From The Haunted Mansion

October 29, 2008

Yeah, ok, so it’s Wednesday.  But I was browsing some of the papercraft sites that I frequent, looking for something good for this week’s Papercraft Friday, when I ran across a post on the always awesome PaperInside.com referring to Escape From The Haunted Mansion, a 3D model / board game from Disney Experience, available this week only.

Can’t say that I’ve seen many models / board games before, complete with playing pieces, dice and so forth.  Pretty fun.  I bet the kids will love helping me make this one and playing the game.  Since Halloween is fast approaching, and since this model is only available through Friday, I figured I’d post early and give people an opportunity to snag it before it’s gone.

Read all about it and download it here.  Once again, thanks go to PaperInside.com for the heads up!

PSP Skin

October 26, 2008

Here’s the second of the gadget skins I bought, this time for my PSP 2.0.  The skin from DecalGirl.com is called the PS9000.  Obviously it’s a play on Hal 9000 from Arthur C. Clark’s Space Odyssey series.  It also has a little twist of The Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy in it, with the words Sirius Cybernetics Corporation on the back.

The final decals shown above turned out to be slightly different than what was pictured on the DecalGirl.com website, but not enough to make much of a difference.  I found the circular bits hard to apply, even moreso than on my iPod skin.  It came with a skin for the silver ring on the back of the PSP, but I had trouble lining it all up and thought it looked just as good (if not better) without it, so I left it off so you can see the actual silver ring.

Overall I’m rather happy with it.  I really like the skins they offer that come with a matching electronic wallpaper for the screen, so the screen and the skin around it blend together.

I have one more skin to apply, which I will probably debut sometime next week.

Blues T.J. Oshie on NHL ’09 Portrayal

October 25, 2008

St. Louis Blues rookie center T.J. Oshie has drawn quite a bit of buzz locally since the start of the season.  He’s been pretty solid in the first seven games, with one goal, two assists, seven hits, nine takeaways and two giveaways.  There is one thing that he’s not happy with, though.  His portrayal in EA Sport’s NHL ’09 hockey video game.   According to an article on STLtoday.com:

“When I play NHL ‘09, I play as the Blues and my guy is just terrible,” Oshie said, laughing. “I feel embarrassed when he’s out there. He’s slow, every time he gets touched he falls down.”

For those of you like me who aren’t video-game junkies, the games today actually rate the players’ skill level in real life and then program those individual players to have a certain skill level in the game.

What can Oshie do about it? Can he play the game as a different team? Or if he plays as the Blues, perhaps he can call EA Sports and get his skill level improved?

“If I play a different team, I’m betraying (the Blues),” Oshie said. “I’m hoping that I just pick up my game, get some hits and they update the game where I’m a little more solid on the puck.”

It’s funny to hear a professional hockey player talk about playing a hockey video game.  And if you did hear that, it’d likely to be some veteren star like Mario Lemieux talking about how excited he is to be on the cover.  Rarely do you hear about how non-cover atheletes feel about their portrayal.  But you KNOW that they call check themselves out.  I think that’s the sort of question I’d be likely to ask first!

Lord British Falls To Earth

October 24, 2008

In a followup to my blog post from October 14th, Richard Garriott (a.k.a. Lord British) returned safely to Earth today in a Soyuz space capsule.  He departed from the International Space Station yesterday at 7pm CST and landed north of Arkalyk in Central Kazakhstan at 10:37 pm CST last night.  He returned with two of the space station’s crew, Sergei Volkov and Oleg Kononenko, who lived on the station for the last 199 days.

Can’t wait to see what he spends his next $30 million on!

LittleBigPlanet Delayed a Week

October 17, 2008

In an effort to RUIN my timely Sackboy papercraft post (obviously), LittleBigPlanet has been delayed worldwide by a week due to some language in a music track that some muslims deem offensive.

Not the best news for Sony given how big a release LBP is for the Playstation 3, but I think people can survive an extra week.  Hey, it’ll give you more time to make your paper Sackboy!

Papercraft Friday #11: Sackboy

October 17, 2008

Next week sees the release of Sony’s much anticipated Little Big Planet, so to commemorate the occasion, this week’s papercraft will feature Sackboy!  A few months back, developer Media Molecule released a blank white Sackboy that you could design to your own liking.  That version was a little too basic for some, like Chamoo232, who made their own, as seen in the pic.

You can get the blank one here and Chamoo232’s versions here.  Chamoo232’s download includes a brown and blue Sackboy’s and a pink Sackgirl, as well as the one seen here.  And optional accessories!  Have fun!
